By speed of use, Katana, the most efficient Japanese first-blow Sword turned out to be inferior to Circassian Shashka.

Circassian Shashka
In 1881 Circassian Shashka became the only official hand weapon used in Russian Army, till now it is kept as a part of parade uniform.

In the end of 19th century – when the era of cold weapons seemed to be over – fencing became rare, cold weapons were used for very short encounters, that was when the Shashka showed its best, and every thing else fail, Circassian Shashka proved to be the only weapon that met the needs of new battlefields tactics.

Shashka - came from Circassian “Sashkoa” means “big knife”, originated among the mountain Circassian tribes of the Caucasus in the 12th century, from a tool to cut vine rods, to an ultimate Sabre, Circassian Shashka became a phenomenon, more details in the videos below.
